It's Finally Ready!

After being MIA for way too long, I am now so excited to announce all of the
major changes to my company. And while I normally believe that there is no good
excuse for neglecting my loyal blog readers, I feel that in the end you'll be glad I did.

Michelle Caucutt Photography is NOW officially
Michelle Lindsay Photography.

Why? Well, let's be honest here. How many of you could actually pronounce my
last name? And, I guess I'm a romantic at heart and am still holding out that someday
I'll get to have my own big, fancy wedding and change my last name.

With the name change come the bigger and better changes that will ultimately
benefit you. Many of these things have been in the works for some time now and it
has to be amazing for me to see them actually, finally happen.

And this is just the start of it...so without further ado!

And that concludes what will be my official last post on this blog.
Sad, but mostly exciting! So make sure to change your bookmarks and

Another Love Story

Valentine's Day has come and gone. I hope everyone spent it with someone special.
My sister and I enjoyed the day with a marathon session of Rockband and I'm now
officially a Medium level player. That's right...I totally rock.

It's cold and rainy today so I thought a good post would cheer me up and I realized I had
still not shared Chris and Jess's wedding from the Liberty Hotel.
If you have never been to the Liberty Hotel, get your bum there right now because it is
SO cool. Story goes that it was once a jail house before it was renovated as a
hotel in 2007. The decor is eclectic and fun - perfect fit for Chris and Jess's personalities.

Everything about the wedding was simple and elegant. A small guest list of less than
30 made this a very special, intimate wedding. Surrounded by their closest friends
and family, Chris and Jess tied the knot exactly 10 years from their first official date.

I started off the day in Chris's room.

and he did a phenomanal job. This next portrait is his.

So Sweet. I love the emotion on Jess's face in this image.

When I first visited the hotel, I saw the original brick from the jailhouse and
knew I had to use it somehow. I had this shot in mind all along and even made
my own homemade snoot for it (a fancy term for lighting adaptor)

And of course, we had to get in some of the Boston skyline at sunset.

Jess picked Purple and Orange as her colors. I love the combination together.

Chris and Jess - January 30th, 2009

I spent last week in Boston - there was a snow storm. I think New England
has it out for me because every time I return, the weather is just awful! But it
didn't matter for Chris and Jess's Big Day because everything was indoors at the
GORGEOUS Liberty Hotel. I am still sorting through all of the photos from the day
and will post the wedding once I'm done, but for now, I wanted to share a favorite
that I came across so far...

Boudoir

Boudoir Photography has slowly been gaining more popularity over the past
few years, mostly because a lot of women are discovering that it can be done
in a classy and tasteful style. I personally love boudoir sessions because its an
opportunity to hang out and drink wine with funny, confident women while
taking awesome photos. Who wouldn't like that?

I met up with Kate and Nikki in Alexandria at the Hotel Monaco, a very eclectic,
contemporary hotel for a sneaky session away from their husbands - they
are planning a sexy surprise for the one-year anniversary gift. They both
were so awesome in front of the camera - in fact, they even said that once we
started shooting, they kind of forgot that they were in their underwear! They
were also nice enough to let me post a few "appropriate" photos for the
blog so thank you to them! Hopefully it might give some of those other newly
married or soon-to-be married women a confidence boost to try this.
I highly recommend it!

In other news, I will be in Boston for the remainder of the week.
I have a wedding and some portrait sessions so there will be lots to share
when I get back.

A Day for History

Generations from now, our children's children's children will look back on
January 20th, 2009 and remark that it was a day that forever changed the
path of America's history. Whether or not you are an Obama supporter
(and yes, I am) it cannot be denied that yesterday was history in the making
and I was lucky enough to be a small part of it.

Ian and I woke up way to late to make it out of the house on time to get downtown
and get spots on the Mall for the actual inauguration itself (we watched that from
the warmth of our living room), but we did want to go into DC to just be a part of
the energy and excitement that the day brought. It did not disappoint. Everywhere
we looked, people were smiling, laughing, cheering and fist pumping with their tiny
American Flags raised high and proud. It was awesome. We attempted to see the
parade, but 2.5 million people is a lot to navigate and so unfortunately we were not
able to get close enough to see Obama...shucks. But still, it was a pretty cool day and
although I wasn't necessarily down there to take pictures, I grab a few to commemorate the day.

I found this super ironic. Hope in the form of commercialism/advertising.
Sigh. I guess some things never change.

One of the coolest things we saw was this area with posters scattered
all over the ground. People were writing their hopes for the
new president and the upcoming 4 years...

Yesterday was actually a day where I was proud to be an American citizen.

Susan and Darren - January 10th

New England must have thought I'd forgotten what snow looked like
because we got quite the storm for Susan and Darren's Connecticut
wedding two weekends ago. I think over a foot fell throughout the reception,
making the Aquaturf Club the perfect backdrop for their wintery, white wedding.

Susan and Darren didn't let the weather bother them one bit though.
They even braved the bitter cold for a few photographs out in the
soft, falling snow. I love when my couples will do anything
for a few good photos. And Susan and Darren were so
relaxed the entire day - nothing bothered them! All day long
they were both just so wonderfully happy and thankful to be
marrying their best friend...

Susan's florist used some leftover lace from her dress to wrap her bouquet. Gorgeous.

Southern New England Weddings Guide

Each year, Schryver Publications puts out their annual Southern New England Weddings
guide. A resource and event guide for the New England States, the magazine shares tips,
vendor advice and even highlights real wedding stories. This year, I was honored to be
featured in the magazine with my photographs from Julie and Justin's Wedding.
The magazine did a spread on historical venues and Julie and Justin's August 16th
wedding at the Linden Place was just the ticket.

For all of my New England Brides, you can learn more about the publication here.
It is also available at your local Borders and/or Barnes&Nobles. For my DC brides,
this guide won't provide you with much help unless you are getting married in
New England, but as a fun tidbit fact, the bride, Julie, lives in Washington, D.C.
and planned her entire wedding from down here. Rock star!!!

A Very Happy New Years

I'm back! I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and took some time off to
celebrate with friends and family. I was fortunate enough to ring in 2009
in a very special way and it all begins almost 14 years ago...

I met Abbey in my 7th grade English class and from there, we were pretty much
attached at the hip. During college, I went off to Boston and she stayed in Madison, so
we still saw each other over breaks when I would come home to visit my parents. I would
meet all of her friends and different boyfriends...and then one year I came home and I got
to meet Ryan. He seemed different than most of the other guys she had been dating
and it quickly became clear that he was when after graduation, she announced that
she was moving to Seattle with him. It was probably a year and a half later on any
random night when my phone rang - it was Abbey calling to tell me that her and
Ryan were engaged.

It's an odd thing when you think about something happening for so many years and then
it finally actually does. I remember us as silly teenagers imagining what our weddings
would be like and how we would be each other's bridesmaids. But then to actually see her
in a wedding dress...well it's emotional. So it was my privilege this New Years to travel
to Cancun, Mexico and stand next to her at the alter and watch one of my greatest friends
marry the love of her life at Moon Palace.

As I was in the wedding party and this trip was all about spending time with friends
and celebrating, I didn't get a lot of photos, but there were a few I snagged so enjoy!

The earrings were Abbey's grandmother's and the bag is a VERY unique and special thing
her soon to be sister-in-law, Allison, made for her. Allison is a fashion designer and
created this bag using the material from Abbey's mother's wedding dress. How cool is that!
I love the idea and if any of the brides out there are interested in something like this for
their wedding, please let me know and I'd be happy to put you in touch with her.

The boys...a very, um, unique group of individuals. We had a lot of fun on the trip.

Happy Holidays

I wish everyone a safe and happy holidays. I will be on vacation from
Saturday, December 22 through January 5th. My travels will first take me to
Madison, Wisconsin to spend the holidays with my family - I haven't been home in
a year so I am quite excited to eat some cheese curds (which I know many of you
won't know what they are, but if you do know, well then you are not only very cool,
but also lucky!) After Wisconsin, I will be headed to enjoy some sun and sand in Mexico!
I know what you're thinking...I was just in Mexico earlier this year! This is true,
however this time I am going there for a VERY special occasion. My best friend from childhood whom I have known since 7th grade is tying the knot down there on
New Years Eve! What better way to ring in the New Year than with friends and a wedding :)

Before I leave, I wanted to post my last wedding for the 2008 season.
Mark and Ellen were married back in November at the Langham Hotel in Boston, MA.
It was a beautiful Jewish ceremony and a festive party afterwards!

Andy and Alex

Well I safely made it to Virginia and was quite excited when I arrived
to see that a few trees still had some leaves left down here!

Before I left Boston though, I got to spend a fabulous (although rather windy)
afternoon with Andy and Alex in the North End. As I was sans assistant for the day,
it quickly became a game of trying to see how I could shoot from one angle while
trying to hold down my light stand and umbrella at a different angle with my thankfully
very long outstretched leg. Let's see...the first time the umbrella just fell over - no harm.
The second time it almost took out Alex and Andy and the third time it actually blew
across a field and Andy had to chase it down. Despite how ridiculous I must have looked,
the shoot was as success, although I have to report that the umbrella did not make it.
Broken. So sad.

We did a lot of silly fun ones as Andy and Alex are very silly themselves.
They love to laugh together which I think is so cute.

Alex told me this is one of her favorite photos, although she joked that
it looks like she's dragging Andy into marriage! Which of course, having spent time
with them is the furthest thing from the truth.
We also did some sexy ones (of course)...

And we had to get in the awesome sky that day...

And everyone knows I love finding random alleys to shoot in...

And of course, there is always time for a few sweet photos...

Thanks to Andy and Alex for not laughing too hard at me and
my ridiculous umbrella during the shoot. I can't wait for next September!

Happy Thanksgiving

It's Turkey Day! Perhaps one of my favorite days out of the year because it
involves my great loves in life: Food, Family and Drinks. This Thanksgiving
is a bit more special to me because it marks a new chapter in my life in
a brand new city. Tomorrow morning I will say goodbye to city that I have
called home for more than 8 years now and drive south to start anew. It strange,
sad and exciting all at the same time, and as I write this, I'm getting a bit sadder
so I better move on quickly. But first, I must say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
to everyone who has made this place feel like home to me. My friends who have
been my lifeline while I've been so far away from family...My clients who are the
most amazing people ever and whom many I have come to call friends...
Coworkers and fellow photographer friends who have challenged me to strive
every single day to be a better photographer and to follow my heart...to everyone
who has supported me and believed in me. I will miss you all!

While this won't be my last time posting a Boston wedding as I will still be
working up here quite a bit next season, I wanted to bid farewell to Boston
with a wedding from a month ago. It seemed only appropriate since
Ingrid and Jeremiah were married at Marsh Chapel on Boston University's campus,
which is where I got my start here in Boston as a very unsure college freshman.
The October 25th wedding was small and intimate, followed by a very festive,
but simple celebration at Radius in downtown Boston.

Lauren and Ryan

While working my way through college at Boston University, I took a job waiting
tables at the infamous Boston Beer Works across from Fenway Park. Long shifts,
late nights and many, MANY drunken baseball fans were in my future for the next
2 years. Somehow though, it all was bearable because on my second day, I met
Lauren. At first glance, she seemed friendly enough, a nice and normal, cheerful
girl. I thought to myself, "we could be friends!"

Fast forward through 2 hellish baseball seasons at Beer Works and a few more
years and Lauren and I are still friends. She's been my rock and sanity whenever
I've needed one and more importantly, she's crazy funny. So when Ian and I had
been dating for, oh, about a year, we decided she would be the perfect fit for
HIS friend Ryan. Prior to this, we'd tried setting Ryan up with some of my other friends,
but it just never seemed right. This time, it seemed different with Lauren.

While I've never had impressive matching skills, I am now considering a new
found hobby because I'm so excited to say that these two wonderful people and
amazing friends are now engaged to be married next year in New Hampshire on
September 26, 2009. What's more, I was honored when Lauren let me
take their engagement photos, and I have to admit, I started getting a bit emotional
as I was editing them!

So enough story time - Congratulations to my two very good friends and enjoy the
photos taken at the Blue Hills in MA.

Ellen and Mark were married late yesterday afternoon at the Langham Hotel
in downtown Boston. While I am going to do a full post on their wedding,
I HAD to share a few select favorites that I picked out late last night when
I got home from the wedding - I was so excited to edit their photos that I couldn't wait!

More to come, but in the meantime, these are for Mark and Ellen who I know
are going to have an amazing adventure in Thailand for the next two weeks!
Congratulations you two! I am so incredibly thrilled and honored to have spent
yesterday with both of you - you are remarkable individuals.

Oh Boy

So I have been uber neglectful of my blog for some time now...it is awful.
At least I can say that the reason is a good one - I've been very busy!!!
I'd forgotten how exhausting moving can be, both physically and
emotionally. In the end it will be all worth it and I cannot wait.

I have so many weddings and portrait session I still want to share on my blog
so over the course of the next few weeks I am going to try to work my way through everything.
Hopefully I will get it all posted, but if for any reason I miss someone,
my apologies in advance!

This fall has been very busy with engagement sessions so I wanted to share
one with you today. Mark and Ellen are actually getting married on
Saturday (two days!) in downtown Boston. I cannot wait for their wedding
because I LOVE photographing this couple. They have a lot of great energy and
are extremely romantic with one another. I am very much looking forward to their
wedding this weekend so make sure to check back soon for pics from the big day.

I am so backlogged on blogging that I've decided the only way to get through
it is to just go one wedding at a time. So we're dating back to a month here,
but I guess I have to start somewhere...

You might remember Amanda and Mike from their engagement session back in August.
It is very hard to put into words the energy and love that this couple radiates.
You really cannot help enjoying yourself when you are around them.

Their wedding day started out, well wet and rainy, courtesy of Hurricane Kyle.
But when I arrived at the hotel to start photographing Amanda, she was in such
amazing spirits, laughing and joking about the weather. I could tell right away
that the weather was in no way going to bring down this day.

The ceremony and reception were held at Lakeview Pavilion (and I'm glad to
announce that a few of Mike and Amanda's wedding photos are going to be
featured in the venue's new brochure, due out in December!). The entire day
was filled with laughter and once the music got going, it was a party that kept on
rock'n late into the night. Guests were dancing with their glow sticks and siesta
hats while feasting on the most amazing chocolate fountain bar I've ever seen.

While I was in DC at the beginning of the month, I had the pleasure of
photographing this animated little fella along with his little brother. I am
still going through the editing so I don't have any of Ethan (his brother),
but for now, let me introduce Jonah and his many many faces!

There was the happy face. The giggle face. The sad face. The face he made
when his dad pretended to get hurt and he cracked up laughing, and my
personal favorite, the monster face (bottom left).

Announcement and Holiday Deadlines

I know I have been totally MIA, but all of you, my clients, have to come first.
I apologize to everyone out there who checks my blog on a regular
basis - I promise to update it as soon as I can with all of the goodness that has
been going on. For right now though, there are a few announcements I need to make.

Drum roll please....

Well, it's no real surprise to most of you that as of December 1st , my official
address will be Alexandria, VA. Ian was offered a job promotion and
we are very excited for the chance in a change of scenery.
For all of you new brides out there, don't worry, I am still booking a
limited number of commissions here in Boston for 2009. This city will always
have a place in my heart and I will take every opportunity possible to visit it.

I also want to announce HOLIDAY DEADLINES for everyone out there.
If you want to order an album to have before the holidays,
please let me know now! The design process can take 2-3 weeks.

***ALL ALBUMS MUST HAVE FINAL DESIGN APPROVAL BY
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9th***

Peak Season

Fall is in full swing here in New England and the colors are just amazing.

Ingrid found this great little spot for her and Jeremiah's engagement
session. Larz Anderson's Park is located in Brookline and is just a photographer's
dream. There were so many cool places to photograph and we had luckily been
graced with a gorgeous afternoon. Ingrid had told me prior to the session that
her and Jeremiah were a bit nervous about having their picture taken, but after
awhile, they both definitely got comfortable we got some awesome shots.

Rainy, Wet Weekend Weddings

Rain, winds and hurricanes can't stop a wedding. Or two weddings for that matter.

I'm anxious to share both of this past weekend's weddings but it will have to wait
awhile. I am leaving tomorrow morning at 6am for Washington DC and still am not
packed. Opps. While I'm away though, you can enjoy a sneak preview of both
weddings that were completely different and unique and matched each couple's
personalities perfectly...

Meg and AJ's Engagement

Still trying to catch up! Meg and AJ were my first 2009 wedding clients - they
booked me back in the fall of 2007! Since then, they both have been finishing
up law school and studying hard for their Bar Exam so it took some time before
we were finally able to squeeze in their engagement session They are getting
married next summer at Zukas Hilltop Barn, which is very lush and green. So
for their engagement photos, they really wanted to do something in the city.
They suggested the Beacon Hill area and I thought it was a great idea. I always
love when I get to wander the streets of Boston look for cool places to photograph.

We found a secret private garden that we snuck into.

Wanted to try something new on this one and I think it works! I really love the mood.

Very classic and cool.

So this photo has an interesting story. Apparently there is a street in Beacon Hill
that you have to pay $250 to photograph on. Huh??? We were not aware of this
until Meg and AJ were already lying on the ground and a neighbor came out and
not-so-politely informed us of it. Well, me being myself, I took the shot anyways
and we left. Isn't anything free anymore?!?

Last Summer Wedding..sigh

It appears as if Fall is officially here, and I guess that is sort of suiting as my summer
beach weddings came to a close two Saturday's ago. From here forward, you'll be
seeing a lot of fall weddings with rich deep colors. But for now, we can remember
how great summer was and say farewell to it with Christine's and Chris's Cape Cod Wedding.

Although the skies threatened rain on our drive down to the Cape, the blue skies
and sunshine eventually came out. The wedding was held at the Chequesett Yacht Club
in Wellfleet, MA with the ceremony on the beach and the reception at a very rustic
boathouse with a fun vibe. The setting was beautiful and Chris and Christine were
all smiles all day long.

Jovee from Jovee Henehan Photography came along as my second shooter. These next 3 photos of Chris were taken by her at his house while he was getting ready.

I absolutely adore this shot. I turned around and saw this little guy just hanging out by himself (I think he was playing video games?!?) Anyways, I thought it set a mood.

Sigh...I want summer back.

This shot was too cute not to include. It was not taken by me, but rather by Jovee. She said she wanted to do a depth of field shot but didn't know what to focus on, so she drew a heart in the sand. Awww...so sweet.

Fenway Park

When we looked at the weather forecast for Michelle and Brendan's engagement
session, it didn't look too promising. Having already rescheduled once and living
in New York, they decided we had to make the session happen, rain or shine.

When Michelle told me her Dad had access to the park and did we want to do
the session there, I was like "Hell Yes we do!" I have been dying to do a session
inside the park for ever and now I can finally cross it off my list. As always,
while inside the park, I really tried to find tiny obscure places to shoot that
didn't exactly let you know where we were. And then of course, we had to
do a few "traditional" shots one would image in Fenway Park.
For example, what says Fenway better than Yankees vs Red Sox?

For today though, I want to share Aitza and Rui's Wedding photos. When I met with this couple back in March, we clicked right away. I remember leaving our initial meeting and being so excited to work with them because of their spunk and energy. The wedding did not disappoint. Aitza's amazing sense of style and attention to detail made this particular wedding a "show stopper," so to speak. I even overhead their guests commenting on how unique everything was, including the venue.

Veronique Ballroom has unbelievable architecture and decor that really lends itself to some great, editorial style wedding photos. Add onto that the fact that there was no wedding party, and it left plenty of time for Aitza, Rui and I to do some awesome photos.

This weekend was definitely a holiday for me - I got to take break from behind the camera and attend my friends' wedding as a guest. Congratulations to my photographer friend's Matt and Paulette of "Say Pickles." They are officially now a husband and wife photographer team, which we all knows means great success ahead. ENJOY ALASKA you two!

In the meantime, I'll take this weekend off to share my wedding from LAST weekend with you. Heather and Joe were married on a friend's property in Lakeville, MA and after doing this couple's engagement session, I knew to expect nothing less than a huge bash for the wedding. They lived up to the expectation - the ceremony was held outdoors in a beautiful, yet simple location. The reception was elegant, but colorful and fun and complete with Asian decor...they even incorporated the traditional Asian tea ceremony into the reception which was a first for me. and of course, Heather and Joe did everything they could to make sure their guest's had a just an absolute blast, including "pour your own" Margarita machines, a photo booth and (my new favorite), Cocktail Hour BEFORE the ceremony!

This is a long post because the wedding had so many awesome details so be warned...ENJOY!

She was just so eccastic. Everyone was cheering her on! It was a very playful atmosphere.

Time to Celebrate! And celebrate they did...They totally got nailed with silly string! This is my first wedding this year who had something to throw at the B&G during the recession and in my opinion, it is a great tradition that should always be incorporated whenever possible.

Always up for anything, Heather and Joe were like "Hell Yeah!" when I suggested getting on the trampoline. I love them!

Onto the Reception. The tent was so colorful and bright.

The infamous Photo Booth is becoming a pretty popular thing to have at weddings. A hint for all of those brides who might really want one but it just isn't in the budget...try building your own. Heather and Joe's was homemade as well as Matt and Paulette's. It is pretty cheap and all it takes is some muscle, wood, a few power tools and a dedicated soon-to-be hubby who is willing to give you the wedding of your dreams.

Julie and Justin - August 16, 2008

Julie and Justin were married last Saturday at the Linden Place, which is a historic mansion from the 1800's located in the small, coastal town of Bristol, RI. Not only was the location gorgeous, but the weather was absolutely perfect that day. The wedding was coordinated by Colleen, from Classic Weddings and she just did a spectacular job on all of the tiny details.

Prior to the wedding day, I had only met with Julie, as her and Justin live in Washington DC. Now, this is uncommon for me to arrive the day of the wedding having never met the groom - I actually was nervous! What if he was a total jerk to work with! Of course though, I should have known better since Julie is such a sweet, sincere individual. As it turns out, Justin was by far the easiest groom I've ever worked with! I've never seen a groom so into his wedding pictures!

The entire wedding party was great to work with and Julie and Justin were amazing for letting us drag them around the mansion and the small town of Bristol for photos. I think it was well worth it :)

And of course we had to go down to the water for some photos as well. There really wasn't a beach here, just a tiny patch of sand, but I did my best to make it look "beachy!" As we were taking these photos, Justin said he always wanted a destination wedding so he was glad we were doing beach photos because that will make him feel like he had a destination wedding...these photos TOTALLY could have been taken in Mexico, or someplace like that!

The carriage house was the location for dinner and dancing.

A Wedding - and Three Anniversaries

When I sat down with Nicole a week before her wedding, she told me that her wedding date was not just any date...it was her mother's wedding anniversary, her grandmother's wedding anniversary AND her great grandmother's wedding anniversary. That's right. 4 generations all married on 8/09. That is truly something unique.

Her dress was breathtaking.

And her groom.Nicole and Eric were married at St. Anne's Church in Somerville. WOW. This church was spectacular.

A special thanks to Bruce, my second photographer, who got this amazing shot from the balcony. The architecture of this church was truly a sight to see.

The reception was held at the Kernwood Country Club in Salem, NH.

So since I'm, oh, maybe 90% German, I had never seen this dance before, however seeing as I am a lover of eating, drinking and being merry (and it pretty much seemed that this dance was celebrating all of the above), I was all for it!

Suzanne and Jay had the perfect Cape wedding planned at the Popponesset Inn which overlooks the water and leads out directly onto the beach. It was going to be gorgeous...

and then it rained. Despite the minor setback, the couple took it amazingly in stride and even braved the sheets of rain for a few outdoor photo-ops under the umbrella. During the reception, the lighting that spread across the ocean lite the entire sky up into a bright purple - guests were actually lining up to watch the storm from the outskirts of the tent! Suzanne told me afterwards that they LOVED the rain we wold never have wished for anything else...

The day started off lovely enough when Vanessa and I arrived at the house. Suzanne had a breathtaking dress with amazing detail work. I loved it.

She decided to add this broach to the dress, which totally kicked it up.

Suzanne and Jay decided to see eachother prior to the ceremony. I know a lot of couples out there struggle with this decision but a huge perk to it was that by the time we left for the church, all of the family formals were DONE! AWESOME!

One Crazy Afternoon...

Amanda and Mike are planning this AMAZING Tuscan-themed wedding at the Lakeview Pavilion for later this fall. So when we started talking about their engagement session, we felt that we had to do at least some pictures at a vineyard...

...but that was only the starting point! The three of us had such an fun-filled, whirlwind of an afternoon. We sort of just hopped in the car and drove, stopping wherever we saw fit. Not only did we get some spectacular shots, but we also got to indulge in wine and ice cream. Let me tell you, this couple has set the bar pretty high for my expectations for engagement session!

When Heather first told me her wedding was being held in Rochester, MA. I was like, "Rochester, where? Isn't that in New York?" Alas, apparently there is a Rochester, MA and it is the closest to being back home in Wisconsin that I have yet experienced out here on the East Coast...it made me a little homesick to be honest.

After the session though, I discovered that

a.) yes, Rochester, MA does exist.
b.) it is GORGEOUS out there. Words cannot describe the amazing sunset we had (hopefully the pictures do)
c.) Heather and Joe totally rock. They are up for anything and I am SO excited to shoot their wedding in a few weeks.

Kate and Matt - July 13, 2008

Kate and Matt are a very unique couple who both have this unbelievable source of energy that just follows them around. I had never met this couple prior to them booking me as they live in Virginia, but the minute we started shooting their engagement session back in December, I knew that photographing their wedding was going to be amazing. They were immediately comfortable, having fun, laughing and just being themselves. They are also just so photogenic that I hardly had to do anything and they looked stunning in all of the photos.

Fast forward a few months to last Sunday at the Coonamesett Inn in Falmouth...

If I had to pick one highlight from the wedding, it would be the ceremony. Kate is a school teacher and before she came up here for the wedding, she had all of her children write down advice for being married. If I have to say so myself, her school children are pretty smart, as they advise Matt that he should:

a.) Kiss her everyday.
b.) Take her to a Red Sox game
c.) Take her to a really nice restaurant on their anniversary, like Applebees.

Love. Baseball. Food. Does it really get any better than that?

I have been very neglectful towards my blog recently and the list of everything to put up here is continuing to grow. While I still need to post Christie's and Mike's wedding photos, I want to share today a few images from two very different weddings for two very different couples this past weekend.

Saturday I had the pleasure of helping out Vanessa Photography for Dave and Denise's wedding at Sapphire Estate in Sharon, MA. It was a daytime wedding and the weather was perfect. As we were walking down the road towards the lake for some photos, we decided it would be fun to hold up traffic. When we were done, the bride and groom got a lot of honks and congratulations!

Then on Sunday Vanessa and I traveled down to the Coonamessett Inn in Cape Cod for my wedding with Kate and Matt. You may remember them as the really cute and absolutely gorgeous couple from the holiday engagement photos last December...this wedding was just so amazing in so many ways, but mostly because of how wonderfully caring these two individuals are (and not just to each other, but to everyone around them). They were both so laid back the entire wedding and after dinner we were able to sneak out of the party for a few quick pictures at the beach....

The New Album

So about a month ago I got in my new album sample and have been meaning forever to post some pictures of it (because I am in LOVE with it!) I was originally scheduled for engagement sessions all weekend but alas, the weather did not cooperate...

...which left me with time to finally shoot the album! Bonus??? I just got a new lens! Nikon 28-70 f/2.8 - it's a pretty lens.

However, my album is even prettier.

This is the Perspex Cover. It is metallic print permanently mounted to a Plexiglas panel. Very Cool.

And it has cool features like Gatefolds and Wingflaps

Solid Craftsmenship.

Here's a cool idea for an alternative to guest books.

The below is a custom item I made for a client of mine to be used at their wedding for guests to sign. It is an 8x10 handmade folio with (6) 5x7 prints surrounded by white matting. The cover is Japanese Silk Fabric with an accent silk ribbon. The cool thing about these folios is that they fold nicely into a book for storage and transport and look great when unfolded and out on display.

Just an idea to share for all the brides out there!

A tiny vistor

So yesterday the cutest, most unexpected surprise happened. I found a baby duck!!! He was all alone, no momma duck anywhere to be seen in the middle of an concrete office complex. We hung out this morning and I am now on my way off to the New England Wildlife Preservation to help get him back into the wild.

Weather and Photo-wise that is...

To state the obvious, it is HOT here in New England (and I don't have AC) but I will survive. And really, I can't complain because I'll take this any day over 10 degrees with snow and freezing ice.

Luckily a few weekends ago when I met with Suzanne and Jay for their engagement session, it was not quite as "sweaty" as it has been lately. Rather it was a perfect Cape evening with a GORGEOUS sunset (and did I mention a hot couple?!?) It took me half way through the session before I look up from my camera and exclaimed to Suzanne "I know who you remind me of! Charlotte from Sex and the City!" (yes, that show is still a guilty pleasure of mine)

We had fun playing in the sand and water, although I think Suzanne had it right when she decided that Jay would go in the water and she would piggy-back it with him :)

The Inn by the Sea

Rebecca and Chris were married at one of the most beautiful locations I've ever been to. Thanks to both of them for being so generous, I got the opportunity prior to the wedding to drive up to York, Maine and actually stay at Viewpoint Inn for an evening. It was so breathtaking just as it was, I knew that the wedding was going to be amazingly beautiful from everything Rebecca had described she was planning on doing.

Well, it definitely lived up to it's expectation. The lighthouse was the perfect backdrop for the ceremony and when you walked into the Mediterranean-inspired reception, you felt like you had been transported into a different country for the evening...

I love this shot from the ceremony - the sunlight hit the bride perfectly!

Rachael and Dan's Engagement

I was at a Bridal Shower today (playing...not working) and someone asked me how I felt about being a wedding photographer. Well, that's a great question, because I was actually thinking the other day about how lucky I am to have such wonderful clients to work with who help make loving my job all the more easier. I love photographing weddings, but more than that, I love getting to know my clients on a more personal level. They are all so unique and its amazing and humbling how many great people/couples I get to meet in my profession.

Rachael and Dan are no exception. Their 1 1/2 hour engagement session turned into 3 hours because we were having so much fun! It was a gorgeous day with beautiful scenery and we just laughed our entire way through the session. Even though Rachael claims she's not photogenic, I think she's crazy!!! She's gorgeous! Look!

Rachael and Dan were such troopers that day! The water was freezing, but they just ran right in. AWESOMENESS.

Trying some new post processing techniques to see how I like them. It's getting there! I like the darker, bolder colors with the wrought-iron gates...

Thanks for being so great to photograph you guys! I can't wait for the October wedding!

Colleen and Jeff are hundreds of miles away in beautiful Hawaii right now and they still took the time to check my blog for their wedding photos! The little taste from right after the wedding posted last week only satisfied them for so long and they were requesting more.

Kristin and Andrew are the type of couple that love stories are written about...

I had the pleasure of meeting this disgustingly cute couple while working with Vanessa Photography this past Saturday. The groomsmen were handsome, the bridesmaids were beautiful, the venue was serene - and of course our bride and groom were not only gorgeous, but just so unbelievable excited to be marrying one another.

After the wedding as I was looking through my images, I noticed that in pretty much every single photo where they are looking at each other, they just have these huge goofy smiles on their faces - you could tell that they were just so in awe of one another and that they really could not wait to spend the rest of their lives together. It is just so cool when you get the opportunity to photography a couple like them and every once in a while a wedding comes along where I find myself almost tearing during parts of it - yup...this was one of those weddings :)

This weekend was suppose to be a total washout (literally...rain everywhere) and instead, it was gorgeous on Saturday for Beckie and Andre's wedding and it was beautiful and sunny this morning for my engagement session up in Ipswich. As it was quite the hectic weekend, I am still sorting through a lot of photos, but I was able to grab one that stood out to me from the engagement session this morning. I just love the mood of this photo and thought I would at least give everyone an sampling from the weekend before I get around to uploading more photos.

Mexico

I finally made it around to editing a few favorites from my trip to Mexico. There was a lot of photos to go through, so this may be the first round of many. When I left, I told myself that I really wanted to try to capture bright, bold colors, whether that be in floral, the ocean, sky or architecture...looking through, I think I did a pretty good job! Mexico was great and I look forward to going back some day to explore the little towns and villages that I only briefly got a glimpse of while I was there...after all, this past vacation was all about relaxation.

Moody Monday

They wanted more of an "urban jungle" (or so I like to call it - it makes me think of America's Next Top Model), so we started at Fenway Park and then moved over to the other side of the River for some skyline shots in the magic light.

Spring Sunset

While sadly I have no pictures to post today (which I hate doing), I think it will be okay because I'll have MORE than enough to share when I get back from my trip!!!

Anyone who knows me is very aware of my fear of being in front of the camera. Behind the camera taking the photographs is where I belong. It was time though to finally overcome my fear, dive in and just have my stupid picture taken! After all, I need something for my website (I think I've had "image coming soon" for about 4 months now!)

So I finally did it...and I am SO thrilled! My fabulous friend and fellow photographer Paulette of Say Pickles could not have done a more fantastic job. I am so happy (and damn! She made me look good!). Thank you thank you thank you Paulette!

Blah...Winter! It is cold, cold, cold here in New England and it is catching up with me. I was "under the weather' all weak and was just too worn down from being sick to blog! But I am feeling better now.

Today's post is less about my photography, more about something I just wanted to share with everyone as a sign of inspiration and hope.

During my last engagement session, I noticed that Kate, the bride to be, had the most beautiful bracelet on. When I asked her about it, she explained that it is part of this wonderful, local organization that was created in honor of a woman named Mel, whom during her 5 year battle against breast cancer, gave away these exact same bracelets to friends, fellow patients, nurses and doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital. After her passing, the organization, Friends of Mel Foundation, was formed to raise cancer awareness in such a unique, and wonderful way - through these bracelets. By making a donation to the organization (which funds cancer research at Massachusetts General Hospital), they in return send you one of Mel's bracelets.

This past Wednesday I celebrated my birthday, leaving behind my early twenties and entering into my quarter-life crisis stage (just kidding). When I came home Wednesday evening, Ian had the most beautiful surprise waiting for me - I'm the luckiest girl ever :)

My first post for 2008 is an engagement session for a couple that I am so excited to be working with. Prior to our engagement session, I had never met Matt and Kate, who are planning a Cape wedding all the way from Virginia! I tried to convince them that I could use the vacation down to Virginia, but alas they had their hearts set on having the photos done close to home :) I guess I'll have to find another excuse to escape down south this Spring!

Laughter and Smiles

Lately my work has been focused on weddings and engagements, so today was a nice break and a good chance for me to be goofy and act silly with a 18 month old. Gabriel was super smiley, so easy to photograph and just overall a pure bundle of joy - he had so much energy! I had such a great time and wanted to share a few of my favorites so far...

And while you might want to resist the fact that the holidays are coming, they are in fact already here! So why not celebrate with some snow!!!

City Love

About 1 month ago I had the pleasure of photographing this couple's first engagement session up in New Hampshire with the beautiful fall foliage as our backdrop. For their second session, they really wanted to capture Boston and what better way to do that then on the Mass Ave bridge with the skyline in the background.

It was pretty windy that day, and I think Ian (who was so graciously standing in as my assistant) almost blew away with my reflector right into the Charles River! Always a good time in downtown Boston...

This next shot reminds me of a old school postcard photo...I LOVE it!

Christie and Mike

Christie and Mike are my new favorite couple. Our engagement session was SO awesome and I think the two of them laughed through the entire thing! They were just having so much fun with each other and I think that's why I love so many of their images. I cannot wait for their wedding next June!

Vanessa and Chris

I photographed fellow photographer Vanessa (www.vanessaphotography.com) and her fiance Chris about 2 weeks ago. We spent almost 3 hours in Borderland State Park, so I had quite the editing job to do!

Today during my engagement session, my client asked me if I ever shoot personal work.

I do!

And in fact, I have been meaning to post them. The following work was taken last weekend to celebrate the fall and the brilliant colors...ENJOY!

I was driving when I just randomly found this gorgeous little pond - it happened to be the perfect time of day and I captured the spectacular colors reflecting in the water.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love my Lensbaby?

I have a secret obsession with churches and steeples. I find them fascinating. I captured this one right before a huge downpour.

And these I just threw in for fun - despite the fact that Ian hates having his photo taken, he is always a good sport.

I love this one of him!

A Game of Tag

I've been watching the game of blog tag go around for some time now and I was waiting for someone to tag me...I had to coerce Dorie Lynn Photography to tag me, but she did, so my turn!

Here are 8 Things you might not know about me:

1.) I was born and raised in Madison, WI and I am proud of it.

2.) Yes I love Cheese, no I do not own a Cheese Hat and I'm pretty indifferent about the Packers. (I have found that I must always clarify the above when stating that I am from Wisconsin)

3.) I was an advertising major at Boston University, and while I did take college photojournalism courses, I am primarily self-taught. Most of what I've learned has been through trial and error, experience, a lot of hard work and of course, my daddy, which brings me to #4...

4.) I hate having my photo taken. I attribute it to growing up with a professional wedding and portrait photographer as a dad. He was constantly making me be his little model and over time I just grew sick of being in front of the camera...however, it eventual led me to my love of being behind the camera.

5.) I always swore to myself that I would never become a wedding photographer. I also never imagined myself as a children's photographer either. Now I couldn't imagine it any other way.

6.) I have a secret affinity for wedding television shows like Platinum Weddings. Yes...it is embarrasing.

7.) I am convinced I have short term memory failure. I cannot leave my home without having to go back multiple times because I forgot something. I am constantly losing keys and in the past 3 weeks, I have misplaced my wallet twice (the last time leading to it being stolen at AC Moore! My big question is why are thieves hanging out at AC Moore?)

8.) My dream in life is to publish a book someday.

So I have many wonderful photos to post from this weekend, however seeing as how I am soooo tired and the Red Sox are playing, I'm going to procrastinate until tomorrow. However, I HAD to post this beautiful photo I took today of Vanessa and Chris at Borderland State Park - she is so stunning in this photo.

and p.s. Vanessa, I tried that technique you told me about for the eyes and I have to say that I think I like it!

Is funness a word? My sister always claims I make up crazy words just because I can and this is probably another scenario of that, but oh well!

I started off my day today at 7am - what a gorgeous fall morning! Emily, Evan and I drove about 1 1/2 outside of Boston to get to Petersborough, NH for a fall engagement session. I had the pleasure of being introduced to this fabulous couple who is getting married next year down in Texas when they moved into the apartment below me! What a fun couple who is very much in love.

Indian Summer Wedding

A White Cap Wedding

Well I may not have gotten to vacation on the Cape for my Labor Day weekend, but I certainly got the next best thing. Saturday I had the privilege of photographing Heather and Chuck's "White Cap Wedding," which included boat rides, harbor cruises and a gorgeous sunset (not to mention an awesome bluegrass band and a tasty ice cream sundae bar!)

I also had the honor of meeting Stan Grossfeld, a 2-time Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist who also happened to be the Bride's Brother in Law...needless to say, the pressure was on!

The wedding was as beautiful as the couple and the weather was a perfect 10.

A perfect day for a perfect couple....
